ESG in Value Chains

A one-day intensive course named “ESG in value chains” is aimed for all professionals who deal with supply chain or procurement. It will provide an understanding of ESG criteria when selecting, onboarding and managing supplier relationships. The participants will be able to decide how to include these in the ESG strategy and how it fits with the overall business strategy and what policies and documentation need to be revised in order to achieve and maintain a long-term and prosperous buyer-supplier relationship.

Course Objectives

  • To understand how ESG topics are managed within value chains
  • To set up or reform existing supply chain management policies and procedures to account for ESG topics
  • To evaluate and monitor ESG performance within value chains

Recommended (target) audience

Chief procurement officers, ESG reporting specialists, consultants on supply chains, any personnel in charge of supply chains and ESG reporting

Participants are invited to study the recommended literature prior to the course.

After the course, each participant will have to create a project proposal with the objective of incorporating ESG criteria in the management of a selected supplier and demonstrate how these will be enforced.

Course outline

  • 11 June 2025 (Wednesday), 9:00-16:00, room NB 474
  • ESG reporting – reporting standards (certifications), reporting on value chains examples (focus on value chain)
  • Value chain management – network theory, internal rules and policies (SLA, Supplier code of conduct), methods to manage value chains, selection criteria before/after ESG implementation, methods to evaluate supply chains / suppliers before/after ESG implementation, onboarding/exit
  • ESG topics in value chains – impacts, risks and opportunities in value chains, partnerships, communication, leadership for change, business model innovation, how to make value chains more resilient and agile, how to set up criteria for monitoring/selection
  • ESG reporting in value chains – how to determine “material” suppliers, what data to monitor, what KPIs to set up

Course lecturer

Ing. Mgr. Petr Procházka, Ph.D.

After 9 years within international logistics in various positions (Czechia, Spain, Belgium), he serves as Country Representative and ESG Specialist at Gosselin (BE). He also participates in sector-specific European sustainability reporting standards creation for road transportation at EFRAG (BE). Apart from Prague University of Economics and Business, he studied at the University of Sheffield (UK), Universidad de Sevilla (ES) and is currently a visiting researcher at Rotterdam School of Management (NL).
